KPSC KAS 2026 Preparation Strategy — Tips

  • General Studies with a Karnataka focus: Both Prelims and Mains give heavy weightage to Karnataka-specific History, Geography, Polity, and Economy — do not rely only on national/UPSC-level material
  • Optional/GS papers in Mains: Since all 4 GS papers plus Essay are compulsory and descriptive, daily answer-writing practice in Kannada or English is essential
  • Qualifying language papers: Don’t neglect Kannada/English qualifying papers — failing to clear the 35% cut-off disqualifies the entire Mains attempt regardless of GS marks
  • Current Affairs: Follow Karnataka government schemes, state budget highlights, and national/international current affairs relevant to the notified exam period
  • General Mental Ability (Prelims Paper-2): Standard is only SSLC (10th) level — practice basic reasoning, data interpretation, and comprehension rather than advanced quant
  • Avoid negative marking losses: With 0.25 mark deduction per wrong answer in Prelims, attempt only questions you are reasonably confident about
  • Take regular mock tests replicating KPSC’s bilingual (Kannada/English) exam pattern to build speed and accuracy
