Preparation Strategy — Tips for IAF Musician Aspirants

  • Music Practice First: Since this is a specialist trade, daily riyaz/practice on your primary instrument matters more than generic fitness — but don’t neglect PFT, as it’s a qualifying hurdle before the music test
  • Physical Fitness: Start 1.6 Km run practice at least 6–8 weeks before the rally; target finishing well within the time limit (7 min male / 8 min female) to have stamina left for push-ups, sit-ups and squats
  • English Written Test: Revise 10th standard CBSE English grammar and comprehension — 30 objective questions in 30 minutes, no negative marking, so attempt every question
  • Music Proficiency Test: Practice your preparatory tune and be fluent in reading the notation system you’re claiming proficiency in (Staff/Tonic Solfa/Hindustani/Carnatic)
  • Documentation: Get your Musical Experience Certificate, Matriculation certificates, and Aadhaar ready and DigiLocker-verified well before the rally to avoid last-minute rejection
  • Medical Prep: Get dental cleaning done, clear ear wax, and avoid tattoos in restricted body zones before appearing for medical tests
