Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q1. What makes the PSSSB Craft Instructor Recruitment 2026 different from previous recruitments?

The 2026 recruitment is one of the largest Craft Instructor drives conducted by PSSSB in recent years, offering 681 vacancies across 52 different trades. Unlike many technical recruitments that focus on a single qualification, this notification includes separate eligibility criteria for both Degree/Diploma holders and NTC/NAC-qualified candidates, giving opportunities to candidates from multiple technical backgrounds. It also introduces detailed trade-wise reservations and stream-specific qualification requirements.

Q2. Can candidates from other states apply for PSSSB Craft Instructor Recruitment 2026?

Yes. Candidates from outside Punjab can apply if they fulfill the educational and technical qualifications mentioned in the notification. However, reservation benefits such as SC, BC, EWS, Ex-Servicemen, and domicile-related relaxations are available only to eligible Punjab residents. Candidates from other states will generally be considered under the General category and must meet all eligibility conditions.

Q3. Why is the National Craft Instructor Certificate (NCIC) important in this recruitment?

The NCIC is a professional certification that demonstrates a candidate’s ability to teach practical and theoretical vocational skills. For the NTC/NAC stream, possessing NCIC is mandatory at the time of application. However, candidates applying through the Degree/Diploma stream are allowed to obtain the NCIC within three years of joining the service. Failure to acquire the certificate within the prescribed period may affect continuation in service as per departmental rules.

Q4. Which trades are expected to witness the highest competition?

Based on previous recruitment trends and the current vacancy distribution, trades such as Electrician, Fitter, Refrigeration & Air Conditioner Technician, Welder, Plumber, Machinist, Draughtsman Civil, Electronics Mechanic, Turner, and Mechanic Motor Vehicle are likely to attract a large number of applicants. These trades have higher awareness among ITI graduates and are commonly offered across technical institutions.

Q5. How should candidates prepare for the written examination?

Candidates should focus on two major areas. First, they must thoroughly revise the technical syllabus related to their respective trade because this section generally carries the highest weightage. Second, they should prepare subjects like Punjab General Knowledge, Current Affairs, Punjabi Language, English, Reasoning, and Basic Mathematics. Regular practice of previous PSSSB technical recruitment papers and mock tests can significantly improve speed and accuracy.

Q6. Is teaching experience compulsory for every applicant?

Experience requirements depend on the qualification stream and technical eligibility. Certain candidates applying through the Degree or Diploma route need relevant industrial or teaching experience as specified in the notification. Similarly, candidates applying under the NTC/NAC stream are also required to possess the prescribed practical experience. Applicants should carefully verify the trade-specific eligibility before submitting the application.

Q7. What responsibilities does a Craft Instructor perform after selection?

A Craft Instructor is responsible for providing practical and theoretical training to students enrolled in Government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs). Their duties include conducting workshop sessions, maintaining machinery and equipment, preparing lesson plans, assessing trainees’ performance, ensuring workplace safety, maintaining attendance and records, and helping students prepare for NCVT or other vocational certification examinations. They also play an important role in improving students’ employability through skill-based education.

Q8. Is there any probation period after appointment?

Yes. Newly appointed Craft Instructors are generally required to complete a probation period as prescribed under Punjab Government service rules. During this period, their performance, conduct, attendance, and training progress are monitored. Degree/Diploma candidates must also complete the NCIC qualification within the stipulated time to continue in regular service.

Q9. What mistakes should candidates avoid while filling out the online application?

Applicants should carefully verify their personal information, educational qualifications, trade selection, category, uploaded documents, photograph, signature, and payment details before final submission. Since corrections are generally not permitted after submission, even minor mistakes in category selection or qualification details can lead to rejection during document verification. Candidates should also ensure that all uploaded certificates are clear and match the information entered in the application form.

Q10. What career growth opportunities are available after becoming a Craft Instructor?

A Craft Instructor appointed through PSSSB can build a long-term career in Punjab’s Technical Education Department. With experience, departmental examinations, and satisfactory service records, employees may become eligible for promotions to senior instructional posts, workshop superintendent positions, training officer roles, or administrative assignments within government technical institutions. They also receive benefits such as annual increments, Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), pension-related benefits (as applicable), medical facilities, leave benefits, and other allowances under Punjab Government rules.

Q11. What documents should candidates keep ready before applying online?

Candidates should keep scanned copies of their Matric certificate, relevant Degree/Diploma/NTC/NAC certificates, experience certificates, Punjab domicile certificate (if applicable), category certificate, NCIC certificate (where required), passport-size photograph, signature, and a valid mobile number and email ID. Keeping all documents ready before starting the application process helps avoid last-minute errors and delays.
