The National Medical Commission (NMC) has officially released the MBBS Seat Matrix for the Academic Year 2026–27, confirming a record 1,36,939 MBBS seats across 823 medical colleges (excluding Institutes of National Importance such as AIIMS, JIPMER, and PGIMER).
Issued by the Medical Assessment & Rating Board (MARB) through a public notice dated 14 July 2026, the latest matrix reflects all approvals granted up to 13 July 2026, including newly established medical colleges and approved seat increases at existing institutions.
Compared with the previous academic session, India has added 9,911 MBBS seats, making this the largest expansion in the country’s medical education history.
The official seat matrix will serve as the foundation for NEET UG 2026 admissions through both the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) and state counselling authorities, while remaining subject to further revisions based on appeal decisions and regulatory approvals
