The Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeosciences (BSIP), Lucknow, an autonomous research institution under the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India, has released a notification for 19 Scientist ‘B’ posts on a regular basis in its scientific cadre. This is one of India’s premier institutions dedicated to research in palaeobotany, palaeontology, and allied Earth Sciences.

Selected candidates will join the regular scientific cadre at Pay Level-10 (7th CPC), working across cutting-edge research areas ranging from palaeoclimatology to Artificial Intelligence applications in Earth Sciences.

Educational Qualification (Essential)

Candidates must meet either of the following:

• Option 1: M.Sc. or a recognized equivalent qualification with First Division in Biosciences, Geology, Physics, Chemistry, or an allied Earth Science discipline, along with 3 years of research experience in the relevant discipline
• Option 2: Ph.D. in a relevant discipline

Preference will be given to candidates with experience or specialization in the following areas, especially those supported by publications in national/international journals, including post-doctoral research experience:

Salary Structure

• Selected candidates will be placed at Pay Level-10 as per the 7th Central Pay Commission, along with usual allowances admissible as per Institute rules, which follow the Government of India pattern
• Selected candidates will be governed by the New Pension Scheme (NPS)
• All appointments will be made on an initial probation period of 2 years

Selection Process

• All applications received within the due date will be considered for shortlisting by a Screening Committee
• Only candidates recommended by the Screening Committee, after approval of the Competent Authority, will be called for a Personal Interview
• Important: Meeting the minimum advertised qualification and experience does not automatically guarantee a call for interview
• The decision of the Institute regarding shortlisting is final, and no correspondence will be entertained in this regard
• No TA/DA will be paid for attending the personal interview

• Step 5: Take a printout of the submitted online application
• Step 6 (Mandatory): Send the hard copy of the application along with self-attested copies of mark sheets, certificates, degrees, testimonials, and the Demand Draft — in an envelope superscribed “APPLICATION FOR THE POST OF SCIENTIST ‘B'” — through Speed Post/Registered Post to: The Registrar, BSIP, 53 University Road, Lucknow-226007, UP, so as to reach on or before 11 September 2026, 5:30 PM

Important Instructions

• Candidates already in service in Central/State Government, Public Sector Undertakings, or Autonomous Bodies must apply through proper channel

• No request to change the personal interview date or slot will be accepted under any circumstances
• Any modification, amendment, or corrigendum related to this recruitment will be published only on the BSIP website/recruitment portal — no further press advertisement will be issued
• Candidates who had already applied under Advertisement No. BSIP/S&A/02/2023 dated 14.02.2023 must still submit the online application form again within the current deadline for their candidature to be considered, though they are exempt from paying the fee again
• If any information provided by a candidate is found to be false or suppressed at any stage, the candidature or selection is liable to be rejected or cancelled
