How to Check JoSAA Round 2 Opening & Closing Rank (Cutoff) 2026
Visit josaa.nic.in → click on “Opening & Closing Ranks” section
Select Round: Round 2 (2026)
Select Institute Type: IIT / NIT / IIIT / GFTI / All
Select Institute Name from dropdown
Select Academic Programme (Branch/Course)
Select Quota (AI / HS / OS) and Seat Type (OPEN / OBC-NCL / SC / ST / EWS / PwD)
Click Submit — Opening and Closing Ranks will appear
Alternatively, download the complete Round 2 OR-CR PDF from the official portal
Note: Opening/Closing Ranks for OPEN seats represent CRL. For EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, and ST seats, ranks represent respective category ranks. A suffix “P” in ranks indicates the rank is from the Preparatory Rank List.
Seat Acceptance Fee — What to Pay After Round 2 Allotment
Debit Card, Credit Card, UPI, Net Banking, E-Challan
Warning: Missing this fee payment deadline = Permanent disqualification from all remaining JoSAA rounds. SAF is later adjusted against the institute’s actual tuition fees.
Freeze, Float & Slide — What Should You Choose After Round 2?
FREEZE: Accept the allotted seat and exit all further JoSAA rounds. Your admission to this institute/branch is confirmed. Once Freeze is selected, it cannot be changed. Best option when you are fully satisfied with the allotted college and course.
FLOAT: Accept the allotted seat BUT continue to participate in upcoming rounds hoping for a better institute or branch (as per your choice list priority). If no upgrade is available in subsequent rounds, you retain the current seat.
SLIDE: Accept the allotted institute BUT want an upgrade to a better branch within the same institute in subsequent rounds. You retain the institute but may get a more preferred branch.
Important Rules: Candidates can change from Float to Slide/Freeze, and from Slide to Freeze via the online portal during any round except the last one. However, the Freeze option cannot be changed once selected. In the last round, the only option is Freeze.
Top IIT branches (CSE, EE, Mechanical at IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Madras) generally show very little rank movement between rounds — competition stays equally tight
NIT/IIIT/GFTI branches typically record the highest cutoff movement — CSE at NIT Trichy, NIT Surathkal, NIT Warangal may see a relaxation of around 200–600 ranks between Round 1 and Round 3
Mid-tier branches could see 12% to 20% broader closing ranks by the final counselling round compared to Round 1
IIT Bombay CSE closing rank (Open GN) has remained in the 60–70 AIR range across 2023–2025, showing extremely stable demand
Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) at IIT Bhubaneswar recorded a Round 1 closing rank of AIR 5,807 under the OPEN Gender-Neutral category in 2026
Female supernumerary seats typically see higher closing ranks (easier to get in) as compared to Gender-Neutral seats in the same branch
Note: All IIT ranks = JEE Advanced AIR. All NIT ranks = JEE Main CRL. Ranks marked ~ are approximate trend-based figures from verified josaa.nic.in official data. Check josaa.nic.in for exact 2026 Round 2 OR-CR.

JoSAA vs CSAB — Key Difference You Must Know
JoSAA: Allots seats to ALL available seats in IITs, NITs, IIEST, IIITs, and Other-GFTIs across all 5 counselling rounds based on JEE Main/Advanced merit and preferences
CSAB (Central Seat Allocation Board): Conducts a Special Round ONLY for seats remaining vacant at NITs, IIEST, IIITs, and Other-GFTIs after JoSAA Round 5 is completed — IITs are NOT covered under CSAB
CSAB Special Round requires fresh registration by eligible candidates who want to fill vacant NIT/IIIT/GFTI seats
CSAB Special Round is also known as the “Special Vacant Seats Filling Round”
Note: There is NO spot round of seat allocation at any of the IITs under JoSAA
What Happens After Round 2 — Step-By-Step Action Plan
Step 1: Login to josaa.nic.in → check allotment status and download allotment letter (take 2 printouts)
Step 2: Decide your willingness — Freeze / Float / Slide (make informed decision based on priorities)
Step 3: Pay the Seat Acceptance Fee (₹30,000 or ₹15,000 as applicable) by 3 July 2026, 5:00 PM
Step 4: Upload required documents on the JoSAA candidate portal (online reporting)
Step 5: Check for any “Query Raised” status — resolve it by uploading corrected documents by 5 July 2026, 5:00 PM
Step 6: Wait for Round 3 result (7 July) if Float/Slide was selected
Step 7: Finally, after Freeze — physically report to the allotted institute as per its schedule for final admission
Common Mistakes to Avoid in JoSAA 2026 Round 2
Missing the fee payment deadline (03 July) — leads to permanent disqualification from all remaining rounds
Ignoring “Query Raised” notification on the portal — failing to respond cancels the allotted seat
Uploading inconsistent, illegible, or mismatched documents vs. application records
OBC-NCL or EWS candidates submitting category certificates that do not satisfy JoSAA’s specific validity requirements
Submitting a Residence Certificate when a Study Certificate is required for local area quota verification
Not downloading and printing the allotment letter immediately (required for physical reporting)
Clicking Freeze without careful consideration — this option cannot be reversed once selected
Candidates whose seat upgrades from NIT to IIT (or vice versa) forgetting that additional document verification may be required
Relying on unofficial social media links or rumours — always use josaa.nic.in only for checking allotment

Factors Affecting JoSAA Cut Off 2026
The JoSAA cut off is influenced by several important factors every year. Even a small change in seat availability or candidate preferences can significantly impact the opening and closing ranks.
Number of candidates appearing in JEE Main and JEE Advanced
Total seats available in participating institutes
Popularity of the institute
Demand for specific branches
Category-wise reservation policy
Home State and Other State quota
Freeze, Float, and Slide choices made by candidates
Seat withdrawals and upgrades during counselling
Who Has Better Chances in Round 3?
Candidates whose ranks are slightly below the current Round 2 closing ranks still have a good chance of securing admission in the upcoming rounds, particularly in NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs. As many students upgrade their allotted seats or withdraw from counselling, additional seats become available in later rounds. Therefore, eligible candidates should continue participating in all JoSAA counselling rounds instead of assuming that their admission opportunities have ended.
