Is There a “New” JAIIB Exam Pattern for 2026?

Based on the latest official IIBF Rules & Syllabus document, the core JAIIB exam structure for 2026 remains the same 4-paper, 100-mark-per-paper, no-negative-marking format that has applied in recent cycles — there has been no fundamental overhaul announced. What genuinely changes each cycle is the cut-off date for including recent regulatory developments in the question papers (explained in a separate section below), along with periodic minor updates to topics under fast-evolving areas like Banking Technology and Digital Payments. Always cross-check the live syllabus PDF on the IIBF website before your exam, since the Institute reserves the right to revise rules, syllabus, and fee structure from time to time.

  • Candidates must have passed the 12th standard examination in any discipline or its equivalent

Passing Criteria

  • Minimum 50 marks out of 100 required to pass each individual subject
  • Alternative aggregate rule: Candidates scoring at least 45 marks in each subject, with an overall aggregate of 50% across all subjects in a single attempt, will also be declared as having completed the examination
  • Candidates who pass individual subjects but not all four in one attempt can retain credit for the subjects already passed, until the overall time limit for passing expires

Time Limit & Number of Attempts

  • Candidates get 5 attempts to complete JAIIB, within a maximum of 3 years from the date of registering for the first attempt — whichever limit is reached earlier
  • These 5 attempts don’t need to be consecutive
  • An “attempt” is counted the moment a candidate registers/applies for an exam cycle — irrespective of whether they actually appear or not
  • If a candidate exhausts all 5 attempts, or the 3-year window lapses (whichever comes first), they must re-enrol afresh — and will lose credit for any subject(s) already passed
  • In effect, a candidate is normally eligible to attempt any 5 out of the 6 exam cycles conducted within a 3-year span (since JAIIB runs twice yearly)

“Class of Pass” Criteria

  • Class is awarded only based on a candidate’s FIRST PHYSICAL ATTEMPT — meaning they must not have attempted any subject of this exam before, and must clear all subjects as per the passing criteria in that same attempt
  • First Class: 60% or more marks in aggregate, with a pass in all subjects, in the first physical attempt
  • First Class with Distinction: 70% or more aggregate marks, with 60+ marks in each individual subject, in the first physical attempt
  • Pass Class: Candidates who complete the exam but don’t meet either of the above criteria (including those who re-enrol after exhausting all permissible attempts)

4th Attempt ₹1,300/-

Note: Candidates must register separately for every attempt. Exams conducted September – February (November 2026 cycle) Up to 30 June of the same year

How to Register for JAIIB November 2026 Exam

  • Visit the official IIBF website — www.iibf.org.in
  • Go to Examinations/Courses → Flagship Courses → JAIIB
  • Register online for the examination during the 1 – 21 August 2026 window
  • Select your preferred exam centre carefully — there is no provision to change your centre after successful registration
  • Select your medium of examination (Hindi or English) — this also cannot be changed later
  • Pay the applicable attempt fee based on your registration week and attempt number
  • Note down your Membership/Registration Number and password for future logins (admit card download, results, etc.)

How to Download the JAIIB Admit Letter

  • No admit letter is issued at the time of registration — it becomes available for download 10–15 days before the exam date, hosted under Examination/Courses → Admit Letter on the IIBF website
  • Log in using your Membership/Registration Number and Edit Profile Password (use “Forgot Password” if needed — a fresh password is emailed to your registered ID)
  • Download and print the admit letter, and affix a recent recognizable photograph on it — the same one provided during registration
  • Carry the printed admit letter along with a valid original photo ID (Aadhaar/e-Aadhaar, PAN, Driving Licence, Voter’s Card, Passport, etc.) to the exam venue
  • Without both the printed admit letter and original photo ID, candidates will be denied permission to write the exam

Exam Day Rules & Important Instructions

  • Mobile phones and other electronic/smart gadgets are not allowed inside the exam hall — even carrying one in switched-off or silent mode counts as adopting unfair means
  • Only a basic battery-operated calculator with up to 8 functions (add, subtract, multiply, divide, %, square root, tax+, tax−), 12-digit, is permitted — scientific calculators are not allowed
  • Reach the venue before the reporting time on your admit letter — no entry is permitted after the gate closing time
  • No candidate may leave the exam venue within the first 60 minutes of the scheduled start time
  • Complete silence must be maintained — any communication with other candidates or outsiders, copying, or impersonation is treated as an unfair practice
  • The Institute reviews audit trail reports and CCTV footage post-exam using scientific methods to detect unfair means, with penalties/debarment as per policy for violations
  • Scribe/extra time facility is available only to visually impaired, low-vision, and specific physically handicapped candidates who cannot operate a keyboard/mouse — eligible candidates must apply online in advance

Result, Marksheet & Certificate

  • Result Advice is hosted on the IIBF website on the date of declaration and can be downloaded by candidates
  • Consolidated Mark Sheet (for candidates completing all subjects) becomes available after result declaration, accessible via login with your membership number and edit profile password
  • Final Certificate: A digitally signed certificate is emailed to the candidate’s registered email ID within 3 weeks of result declaration, for those who have passed the examination

Study Material & Preparation Tips

  • IIBF’s own courseware (book) is available through publisher outlets listed under Education → Publication on the IIBF website — treat it as your base material, not the sole source
  • Since banking and finance rules change frequently, regularly read “IIBF Vision” and “Bank Quest”, both published by the Institute, along with Master Circulars/Master Directions from the RBI
  • Also refer to the websites of RBI, SEBI, BIS, IRDAI, and FEDAI for regulatory updates relevant to the syllabus
  • IIBF facilitates free e-learning for all JAIIB papers — registered candidates receive login credentials on their registered email ID to access this at their own convenience
  • Tutorial/Contact Programmes may also be organised by the Institute at various centres — check the IIBF website for availability near you
  • Since there’s no negative marking, attempt every question — but given the sheer breadth of topics (especially in Paper I and Paper III), prioritise building strong fundamentals over last-minute cramming of obscure sub-topics
  • Pay special attention to Paper III’s calculation-heavy sections (interest & annuities, YTM, forex arithmetic, ratio analysis) — these need practice, not just reading
  • For Paper II and Paper IV, current regulatory changes (KYC/AML updates, RBI Ombudsman Scheme, digital payment developments) are frequently tested — keep this current within the cut-off date applicable to your exam cycle
