How ISRO/DoS Apprenticeships Work — General Context for Applicants

VSSC’s apprentice drive follows the same broad framework used across other ISRO/Department of Space units (like ISTRAC, SAC) for their 2026 apprenticeship cycles:

  • All apprenticeships across ISRO Centres run under the Apprentices Act, 1961 and Amendment Act, 1973
  • Registration on the NATS (National Apprenticeship Training Scheme) portal is a standard requirement across ISRO units — VSSC requires this immediately after induction rather than before applying
  • Stipend structures are fairly uniform across ISRO Centres — Graduate Apprentices typically get ₹12,300/month and Diploma/Technician Apprentices around ₹10,900/month, in line with what other ISRO units (SAC, ISTRAC) have also announced for 2026
  • Across ISRO, apprenticeship training is explicitly stated to NOT guarantee permanent employment — this is consistent at VSSC, SAC, and ISTRAC alike
  • No application fee is charged anywhere in the ISRO apprenticeship ecosystem, including at VSSC

Why this matters for you: If you’re not shortlisted at VSSC or the vacancy count doesn’t suit your discipline, keep an eye on similar walk-in/apply drives at other ISRO units (SAC-Ahmedabad, ISTRAC-Bengaluru, URSC, etc.) — they run largely independent, parallel recruitment cycles with similar eligibility and stipend norms.

Reasons for Disqualification / Ineligibility

  • Degree/Diploma acquired before April 2022
  • Currently pursuing final year, or awaiting result, or enrolled in M.E/M.Tech
  • Already completed or currently undergoing Apprenticeship under the Apprentices Act (any institution)
  • 1+ year of prior work experience from any institution as an Apprentice
  • More than 5 years elapsed since passing the qualifying exam
  • CGPA-to-percentage self-conversion used to claim eligibility where University doesn’t permit it
  • Incomplete or missing original documents at the Selection Drive venue

Why Consider an ISRO VSSC Apprenticeship

  • Prestige & Resume Value: VSSC is ISRO’s lead centre for launch vehicle technology — a rare, high-value credential for engineering/hotel-management/general graduates
  • Hands-on Exposure: Direct involvement in space-application-linked projects across Aerospace, Electronics, Mechanical, Civil, IT, and administrative domains
  • NATS-Recognized Certificate: Completion leads to a nationally recognized apprenticeship certificate valid for private-sector job applications and useful even for future government exam profiles
  • No Bond, No Bond-Breaking Penalty: Unlike some corporate training programs, there’s no service bond after training completion
  • Broad Eligibility for Non-Engineers Too: With 100 seats reserved for General Stream (Non-Engineering) graduates, this drive is unusually open to Arts/Commerce/Science graduates seeking Administration, Finance & Accounts, or Purchase-related exposure at a premier space research centre

Last-Minute Checklist Before 25 July 2026

  • Reach the venue well before 9:30 AM — this is a first-day, single-shot walk-in drive with no rescheduling
  • Carry ORIGINAL certificates + self-attested photocopies — incomplete document sets risk on-the-spot rejection
  • Double-check your CGPA/percentage against the discipline-specific cut-off (65% for engineering, 60% for Hotel Mgmt/General Stream)
  • If claiming OBC/EWS/SC-ST/PwBD benefits, ensure certificates are in the exact prescribed format (Annexure 1 & 2 attached to the official notification)
  • Verify you fall within the 5-year window since your qualification’s passing date — this single rule disqualifies many otherwise-eligible candidates
  • Since selection is purely marks-based, know your exact CGPA/percentage figure and be ready to substantiate it from your marksheet
