Who Can Apply — General Eligibility
- Candidates who have obtained the required degree (Graduate/Post-Graduate) or are in their final year
- Degree must be from a University incorporated by an Act of Central/State Legislature, or institutions deemed as Universities under UGC Act 1956, IIT Act 1961, AICTE Act 1987, NITSER Act 2007, or IIIT Act 2014
- Candidates with foreign degrees may apply, provided they submit a UGC equivalence certificate
- Candidates must fulfil the stipulated educational qualification before joining INA, Ezhimala by June 2027

- Merchant Navy Personnel: Candidates holding a Certificate of Competency (Foreign Going) as Second Mate/Mate/Master, born between 02 Jul 1997 – 01 Jan 2008, can apply for Executive Branch (General Service); those holding a 1st Class Engineer certificate, born in the same range, can apply for Technical Branch (SSC Engineering)
- Commercial Pilot License (CPL) Holders: Candidates with a valid DGCA-issued CPL, born between 02 Jul 2002 – 01 Jul 2008, can apply for Pilot entry
- NCC Candidates: NCC ‘C’ Certificate holders (Naval/Army/Air Wing, minimum ‘B’ grade, served at least 2 academic years in Senior Division, certificate not dated before 01 Jul 2024) get a 5% relaxation in SSB shortlisting cut-off marks

Selection Procedure
- Stage 1 — Shortlisting: Based on normalised marks of the qualifying degree (formula available on the Navy website); BE/B.Tech candidates in final year are assessed on marks up to 5th semester; PG candidates (MSc/MCA/MBA/M.Tech) on marks from completed semesters
- Stage 2 — SSB Interview: Shortlisted candidates are intimated via Email/SMS; change of SSB centre is not permitted under any circumstances
- Stage 3 — Medical Examination: SSB-recommended candidates undergo a medical exam as per their entry’s applicable standards
- Stage 4 — Merit List: Prepared based on SSB marks, subject to vacancy availability and medical fitness for the respective entry

Tenure, Training & Probation
- Short Service Commission granted initially for 12 years, extendable by a maximum of 2 years, subject to service requirement and performance
- Selected candidates are inducted as Sub Lieutenant, subject to clearing the induction medical examination at INA, Ezhimala on reporting
- Only unmarried candidates are eligible for training; marrying during training leads to discharge and liability to refund pay/allowances
- Voluntary withdrawal or resignation during probation requires refunding training costs and money received, with interest
- Probation Period: 2 years from the date of grant of Sub Lieutenant rank, or completion of initial training, whichever is later

Pay, Allowances & Benefits
- Initial Gross Salary: Approx. ₹1,20,000/- per month for Sub Lieutenant, plus other applicable allowances
- Pilot/NAOO/Submarine allowance of ₹31,250/- admissible post successful completion of specialised training
- All officers/cadets are compulsory members of the Naval Group Insurance Scheme (NGIS) on a contribution basis, applicable in-service and post-retirement
