Eligibility Criteria — Essential Qualification

Route I:

• B.Sc. (Hons.) Nursing / B.Sc. Nursing from an Indian Nursing Council/State Nursing Council recognized Institute or University OR B.Sc. (Post-Certificate)/Post-Basic B.Sc. Nursing from a recognized Institute/University
• Registered as Nurse & Midwife with State/Indian Nursing Council

Route II (OR):

• Diploma in General Nursing Midwifery (GNM) from a recognized Institute/Board/Council
• Registered as Nurse & Midwife in State/Indian Nursing Council
• Two Years’ Experience in a minimum 50-bedded Hospital, acquired AFTER obtaining the essential qualification (i.e., after residency, result declaration, and Nursing Council registration)

Exam Pattern — Stage I: NORCET Preliminary (Qualifying Only)

• Duration: 90 minutes; 100 MCQs of 100 marks (20 GK & Aptitude + 80 Nursing subject-based)
• Negative Marking: 1/3 mark per wrong answer
• Sectional Timing: 5 sections of 18 minutes each (20 questions per section) — sections auto-lock after time lapses, no going back
• Qualifying Percentile: 50 (UR/EWS), 45 (OBC), 40 (SC/ST); additional 5 percentile relaxation for PWBD (UR/EWS-PWBD: 45, OBC-PWBD: 40, SC/ST-PWBD: 35)
• Preliminary marks are NOT used for final merit — only for shortlisting to Stage II (5× total seats per category called; all qualified PWBD & tie cases also called)

Exam Pattern — Stage II: NORCET Mains (Merit-Determining)

• Duration: 180 minutes; 160 MCQs of 160 marks (Nursing syllabus, case scenario-based questions testing clinical skill competency)
• Negative Marking: 1/3 mark per wrong answer
• Sectional Timing: 4 sections of 45 minutes each (40 questions per section) — same auto-lock rule as Prelims
• Qualifying Marks: 50% (UR/EWS), 45% (OBC), 40% (SC/ST); +5% relaxation for PWBD (UR/EWS-PWBD: 45%, OBC-PWBD: 40%, SC/ST-PWBD: 35%)
• Final Merit List is prepared solely on Stage-II (Mains) performance; normalisation applies if conducted in multiple shifts (per AIIMS Notice No. 35/2023)
• Tie-Breaker Order: (1) Fewer wrong answers in Mains → (2) Higher Prelims score → (3) Fewer wrong answers in Prelims → (4) Older candidate (by DOB) → (5) Alphabetical order of name/father’s/mother’s name

Selection Process & Allocation of Seats

• Stage 1: NORCET Preliminary — Qualifying CBT
• Stage 2: NORCET Mains — Merit-determining CBT
• Stage 3: Exercise of Choices/Preferences (institute/hospital-wise) by qualified & eligible candidates only
• Stage 4: Merit-based Seat Allocation — only one round of allocation; no waiting list (NORCET is held twice a year)
• Stage 5: Document Verification by respective allotted AIIMS/Institute
• Stage 6: Medical Examination and Joining as per respective institute’s process
• A candidate allotted a seat from a filled choice is mandatorily required to join — failure leads to cancellation of candidature for that NORCET cycle
• Candidates who fail to exercise choices within the given window will NOT be considered for selection at any later stage

• Visit the official website — www.aiimsexams.ac.in
• Candidates already having an OTR (One Time Registration) from a previous AIIMS exam MUST apply using their old ID — a fresh/different registration ID will lead to rejection
• New candidates should register using basic details to generate login credentials
• Fill in the online application form carefully — correction after submission is not possible through any mode (including email/letter)
• Upload photograph, signature, and thumb impression strictly as per the “Upload Image Instructions” — illegible uploads lead to rejection
• Pay the prescribed application fee online via Debit Card/Credit Card/Net Banking
• Submit the form and download/save a copy along with proof of payment for your records (no physical documents need to be sent to AIIMS)
• If currently employed in Government/Semi-Government/PSU/Autonomous Body, upload the NOC by 18 August 2026, 5:00 PM — failure leads to automatic cancellation of candidature

Category Certificate Validity Rules (OBC-NCL / EWS)

• OBC-NCL Certificate: Must be valid for FY 2026–27 (income up to FY ending 31.03.2026), issued between 01.04.2026 and 13.08.2026, in the prescribed Central Government format
• If a valid FY 2026–27 OBC-NCL certificate is not available at registration, candidates may upload the previous certificate + proof of renewal application — but must submit the valid certificate within the notified time later
• EWS Certificate: Must be based on FY 2025–26 income, issued between 01.04.2026 and 13.08.2026, valid for FY 2026–27, in the prescribed format
• Certificates in State-only format or not in the prescribed Central Government format will NOT be accepted
• Category once selected (SC/ST/OBC/UR/EWS) at the time of fee payment cannot be changed later

• Candidates with blindness, locomotor disability (both arms affected), or cerebral palsy get scribe facility + 20 minutes/hour compensatory time on self-declaration
• Other PWBD categories need a certificate from a Government Medical Officer confirming physical limitation in writing
• All required certificates/undertakings (Appendix A-1, A-2, or A-3 as applicable) must be uploaded at the time of application — no facility will be provided later if not uploaded in time
• Candidates may opt for their own scribe (qualification one step below GNM/B.Sc. Nursing, but at least matriculate) or request AIIMS to arrange one
