Q1. What is GDCE and who can apply for ECoR GDCE 2026?
Ans: GDCE (General Departmental Competitive Examination) fills 25% of Direct Recruitment Quota vacancies from among regular East Coast Railway employees only (except RPF/RPSF). It is NOT open to the general public.
Q2. How many total vacancies are there in ECoR GDCE 2026?
Ans: A total of 1,421 vacancies (provisional) are notified across 7 post categories, including 1046 for Assistant Loco Pilot alone.
Q3. What is the online application period for GDCE 2026?
Ans: Online registration opens on 15 August 2026 and closes on 14 September 2026.
Q4. What is the age limit for ECoR GDCE 2026?
Ans: Upper age limit is 42 years for UR, 45 years for OBC, and 47 years for SC/ST candidates, reckoned as on 01.01.2027. No age relaxation applies to SC/ST/OBC-NCL candidates applying against unreserved vacancies.
Q5. Is there negative marking in the CBT?
Ans: Yes, 1/3rd of the marks allotted for each question is deducted for every wrong answer in CBT (all posts). There is no negative marking in CBAT.
Q6. What is the minimum qualifying percentage in CBT?
Ans: UR-40%, OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)-30%, SC-30%, and ST-25%, relaxable by 2 marks for PwBD candidates in case of shortage against reserved vacancies.
Q7. Is a “No Objection” from the employer required to apply?
Ans: Yes, candidates must intimate their Controlling Authority for a “No Objection” and get their filled application forwarded by their controlling officer before submitting the scanned copy online.
Q8. What happens if I resigned or transferred out of East Coast Railway?
Ans: Such candidates are not eligible. Only regular employees with a current lien in East Coast Railway (including erstwhile Waltair Division/SCoR) can apply.
