JoSAA 2026 Round 5 Allotment OUT; Check Final Opening & Closing Ranks for IITs, NITs, IIITs, GFTIs, OR-CR PDF & CSAB Special Round

The JoSAA 2026 Round 5 Seat Allotment Result has been officially declared on 16 July 2026 at 5:00 PM, bringing the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counselling process for the 2026-27 academic session to an end.

Unlike the previous year, JoSAA 2026 concludes after five rounds, making Round 5 the final opportunity for admissions to 23 IITs, IISc Bengaluru, 31 NITs, IIEST Shibpur, 26 IIITs, and 56 GFTIs.

Along with the allotment result, candidates can now access the Round 5 Opening and Closing Ranks (OR-CR) to analyze institute-wise and branch-wise cutoffs. Candidates allotted a seat must complete online reporting, pay the seat acceptance fee, upload the required documents, and choose the available option before the reporting deadline.

Those seeking admission to vacant seats in NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs can participate in the upcoming CSAB Special Rounds after the conclusion of JoSAA counselling.

What Round 5 Means for You

  • This is the LAST round — for IITs, IISc, and the entire NIT+ system (NITs, IIITs, IIEST, GFTIs) alike. There is no Round 6 in the 2026 cycle
  • No Float or Slide option: Unlike earlier rounds, in Round 5 you can only Freeze (accept and stay with your allotted seat) or Withdraw/Exit — there’s no option to keep floating for a better seat
  • No spot round for IITs: If you don’t get an IIT seat in Round 5, that’s final for the IIT/IISc system this year
  • IIT/IISc withdrawal already closed: The withdrawal window for IIT and IISc seats was only available during Round 4, from 11 to 14 July 2026 (5:00 PM) — it is not available in Round 5
  • NIT+ system candidates (NITs/IIITs/IIEST/GFTIs) can still withdraw an accepted seat online even after Round 5, up until the deadline
  • Candidates with no allotment through Rounds 1–4 may receive their very first seat offer in Round 5, as vacancies open up from other candidates’ withdrawals and upgrades

Understanding Opening Rank (OR) & Closing Rank (CR)

  • Opening Rank (OR): The best (numerically lowest) rank of the candidate who got a seat offer in that specific institute-branch-category-quota combination
  • Closing Rank (CR): The last (numerically highest) rank at which a seat was filled in that combination — this is the number most candidates check
  • Your rank must be numerically equal to or lower than the CR to be eligible for that seat — use your AIR/CRL for Open category, or your respective Category Rank for reserved categories (EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD)
  • IIT/IISc seats use a single All-India (AI) quota; NITs, IIITs and most GFTIs split seats into Home State (HS) and Other State (OS) quota, with HS typically 10,000+ ranks more relaxed than OS for the same branch
  • Each combination is also split further by Gender-Neutral and Female-Only (Supernumerary) pools

IIT CSE Opening & Closing Ranks — Round 1 2026 Baseline (Open, Gender-Neutral, AI Quota)

Institute Opening Rank
IIT Bombay OR: 1 | CR: 65
IIT Delhi OR: 35 | CR: 123
IIT Madras OR: 67 | CR: 149
IIT Kanpur OR: 32 | CR: 276
IIT Kharagpur OR: 217 | CR: 509
IIT Roorkee OR: 277 | CR: 582
IIT Hyderabad OR: 339 | CR: 647
IIT Guwahati OR: 588 | CR: 810
IIT (BHU) Varanasi OR: 819 | CR: 1,436
IIT Indore OR: 1,186 | CR: 1,639
IIT Gandhinagar OR: 1,248 | CR: 2,144
IIT Jodhpur OR: 2,536 | CR: 3,392
Important: These are confirmed Round 1 (13 June 2026) figures, shown as a stable baseline. Historically, top-5 IIT CSE closing ranks barely move from Round 1 to the final round (e.g., IIT Bombay CSE closed at 66 in both Round 1 and the final round in 2025) since very few candidates in that rank band ever vacate the seat. The exact Round 5 (final, 16 July 2026) figures for every branch, category and quota are now live — check them directly on josaa.nic.in using the OR-CR tool, since the full dataset spans thousands of institute-branch-category combinations that can’t be reproduced in full here.

NIT CSE Opening & Closing Ranks — Round 1 2026 Baseline (Open, Gender-Neutral)

NIT / Quota Opening / Closing Rank
NIT Trichy (OS) OR: 103 | CR: 1,317
NIT Trichy (HS) OR: 867 | CR: 4,219
NIT Surathkal (OS) OR: 678 | CR: 1,605
NIT Surathkal (HS) OR: 1,002 | CR: 3,184
NIT Warangal (OS) OR: 1,611 | CR: 2,238
NIT Warangal (HS) OR: 1,567 | CR: 3,426
NIT Allahabad (OS) OR: 1,641 | CR: 4,879
NIT Rourkela (OS) OR: 2,286 | CR: 3,606
NIT Calicut (OS) OR: 2,405 | CR: 5,100
NIT Jaipur (OS) OR: 2,955 | CR: 5,255
NIT Durgapur (OS) OR: 6,910 | CR: 10,642
NIT Silchar (OS) OR: 8,111 | CR: 12,260
Trend to expect by Round 5: Unlike top IITs, NIT and IIIT closing ranks typically relax by around 8% to 15% from Round 1 to the final round as higher-ranked candidates upgrade out and vacate seats — so Round 5 closing ranks for most NIT branches will likely sit noticeably higher (more relaxed) than the Round 1 figures shown above. Newer/lower-demand NITs and GFTIs often see even larger relaxation, in the 10–20% range.

IIIT Highlights — Round 1 2026 Baseline (Open, Gender-Neutral, AI Quota)

IIIT / Branch Opening / Closing Rank
IIIT Allahabad — Information Technology OR: 1,846 | CR: 9,500
IIIT Allahabad — ECE OR: 4,599 | CR: 6,788
IIIT Lucknow — CS & AI OR: 4,736 | CR: ~8,700
IIIT Lucknow — Information Technology OR: 7,456 | CR: 9,998
IIIT Gwalior — CSE OR: 5,106 | CR: 8,073
IIIT Jabalpur — CSE OR: 8,187 | CR: 13,866
IIIT Guwahati — CSE OR: 11,116 | CR: 22,044
Note: IIIT Hyderabad does NOT participate in JoSAA — it conducts independent admissions through its own portal. Don’t confuse it with the 26 IIITs listed under JoSAA.

Category-Wise Closing Rank Pattern (Top 5 IITs, CSE, Indicative)

Category Rank Basis / Indicative CR Range
General (Open) JEE Advanced AIR — 65 to 810
EWS Gen-EWS Category Rank — 200 to 1,500
OBC-NCL OBC-NCL Category Rank — 100 to 700
SC SC Category Rank — 15 to 50
ST ST Category Rank — 10 to 80
Note: Open-category ranks are based on the Common Rank List (CRL/AIR); EWS, OBC-NCL, SC and ST cutoffs use their own respective category rank lists — always check your correct category rank, not your overall CRL, when comparing against reserved-category closing ranks.

How to Check Your JoSAA Round 5 Seat Allotment

  • Visit the official website — josaa.nic.in
  • Log in using your JEE Main 2026 application number and password
  • Go to the “Seat Allotment” tab to view your Round 5 result
  • Download your “Seat Allotment Intimation Slip,” which shows your allotted institute, branch, quota and category
  • To check institute/branch-wise Opening & Closing Ranks, click the “OR-CR” link on the homepage and select Round, Institute Type, Institute Name, Academic Program, and Seat Type/Category
  • If you’ve been allotted a seat, immediately proceed to online reporting: pay the Seat Acceptance Fee, upload documents, and choose Freeze or Withdraw (no Float/Slide in Round 5)

Seat Acceptance Fee & Required Documents

General / OBC-NCL / EWS ₹35,000/- (adjusted against admission fee at the institute)
SC / ST / PwD ₹15,000/- (adjusted against admission fee at the institute)
Documents typically required at online reporting: JEE Main/Advanced Admit Card & Scorecard, Class 10 & 12 Marksheets/Certificates, Category Certificate (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS, if applicable — OBC-NCL/EWS certificates must be dated on or after 01 April 2026), PwD Certificate (if applicable), Photo ID Proof, Passport-size Photograph, and Provisional Seat Allotment Letter.

What Happens After Round 5 — CSAB Special Rounds

  • IITs and IISc Bengaluru do NOT participate in CSAB — Round 5 is truly final for them
  • Any seats that remain vacant in NITs, IIITs, IIEST and GFTIs after Round 5 are filled through CSAB Special Rounds
  • CSAB Special Round registration is expected to open by 22 July 2026, with Partial Admission Fee payment running 22 to 24 July 2026
  • Candidates who already hold a JoSAA-allotted NIT/IIIT/GFTI seat can register for CSAB Special Rounds while retaining their current seat, provided they pay the Partial Admission Fee and their JoSAA seat isn’t cancelled
  • Candidates must separately register on csab.nic.in — CSAB is a different portal from JoSAA

Tips for Round 5 Candidates

  • Since there’s no Float or Slide this round, think carefully before choosing Freeze vs. Withdraw — once frozen, you keep that exact seat; once withdrawn, you exit JoSAA entirely for this cycle
  • If you’re aiming for an NIT/IIIT/GFTI seat and are not fully satisfied with your Round 5 allotment, remember CSAB Special Rounds remain open afterward — you don’t have to withdraw your current seat to try for an upgrade there
  • If you have no allotment at all by Round 5, don’t panic — check CSAB Special Rounds closely, since a meaningful number of NIT/IIIT/GFTI seats open up after JoSAA concludes
  • Double-check that your OBC-NCL/EWS certificate is dated on or after 1 April 2026 — even a certificate issued one day earlier will be rejected at document verification
  • Complete online reporting (fee payment + document upload) well before the deadline — a missed deadline cancels your seat permanently, with no reinstatement in any later round
  • Use the official OR-CR tool on josaa.nic.in (filtered by Round 5, your exact category, gender pool and quota) as the single source of truth — third-party sites can only give indicative or historical estimates

JoSAA 2026 Round 5 FAQs

1. Is JoSAA Round 5 the final counselling round in 2026?

Yes. JoSAA 2026 consists of only five counselling rounds, making Round 5 the final seat allotment round for admissions to IITs, IISc Bengaluru, NITs, IIITs, IIEST Shibpur, and GFTIs. Unlike JoSAA 2025, there is no Round 6 this year. Candidates who receive a seat in Round 5 must complete all admission formalities within the prescribed deadline.

2. How can I check the JoSAA 2026 Round 5 Seat Allotment Result?

Candidates can check their allotment by following these steps:

  1. Visit the official JoSAA website.
  2. Click on Round 5 Seat Allotment.
  3. Log in using your JEE Main/Advanced Application Number and Password.
  4. View your allotted institute, branch, category, and quota.
  5. Download the Seat Allotment Intimation Slip for future admission procedures.

3. Where can I check the Round 5 Opening and Closing Ranks (OR-CR)?

JoSAA provides an official OR-CR (Opening Rank–Closing Rank) tool. Candidates can:

  • Select Round 5
  • Choose Institute Type (IIT/NIT/IIIT/GFTI)
  • Select Institute Name
  • Choose Branch
  • Select Category and Quota

The tool displays the final opening and closing ranks for every institute and programme, helping candidates compare their rank with the last admitted candidate.

4. What do Opening Rank (OR) and Closing Rank (CR) mean?

Opening Rank (OR) is the best rank at which admission started in a particular institute, branch, category, and quota.

Closing Rank (CR) is the last rank that secured admission in that particular combination.

Candidates generally compare their own AIR or category rank with the Closing Rank, as it indicates the minimum rank required for admission in that round.

5. Can I choose Float or Slide after Round 5?

No.

Since Round 5 is the final round of JoSAA counselling, the Float and Slide options are not available.

Candidates can only:

  • Freeze the allotted seat and complete admission.
  • Withdraw (only where applicable under JoSAA rules).

No further upgradation is possible through JoSAA after Round 5.

6. What happens if I don’t report after getting a seat in Round 5?

Failure to complete:

  • Online reporting,
  • Seat acceptance fee payment,
  • Document upload,
  • Required verification,

within the prescribed deadline will result in automatic cancellation of the allotted seat. Once cancelled, the seat cannot be restored through JoSAA.

7. What is the Seat Acceptance Fee for JoSAA 2026?

The prescribed fee is:

  • General / OBC-NCL / EWS: ₹35,000
  • SC / ST / PwD: ₹15,000

The amount is adjusted against the final institute admission fee after successful admission.

8. Which documents are required for JoSAA online reporting?

Candidates should keep the following documents ready:

  • JEE Main/Advanced Admit Card
  • JEE Scorecard/Rank Card
  • Class 10 Certificate
  • Class 12 Marksheet
  • Category Certificate (if applicable)
  • EWS/OBC-NCL Certificate (issued as per JoSAA guidelines)
  • PwD Certificate (if applicable)
  • Government Photo ID
  • Passport-size Photograph
  • Seat Allotment Letter

Original documents will be verified during institute reporting.

9. What is CSAB Special Round and who can participate?

After JoSAA counselling concludes, the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) conducts Special Rounds to fill vacant seats in:

  • NITs
  • IIITs
  • IIEST Shibpur
  • GFTIs

Candidates who are eligible under CSAB rules can register separately on the CSAB portal. IIT seats are not included in CSAB counselling.

10. Does CSAB conduct counselling for IIT admissions?

No.

CSAB counselling is conducted only for vacant seats in NITs, IIITs, IIEST, and GFTIs.

Admissions to IITs and IISc Bengaluru end completely after JoSAA Round 5, and no special or spot round is conducted for IIT seats.

11. Why do Opening and Closing Ranks change every year?

OR-CR values depend on several factors, including:

  • Number of applicants
  • Difficulty level of JEE Main and JEE Advanced
  • Candidate preferences
  • Seat availability
  • Reservation policies
  • New branches and seat additions

Because of these factors, cutoffs vary every admission cycle.

12. What should candidates do after downloading the Round 5 allotment?

Candidates should immediately:

  • Verify their allotted institute and branch.
  • Download the allotment letter.
  • Pay the seat acceptance fee.
  • Upload all required documents.
  • Complete online reporting before the deadline.
  • Track institute-specific reporting instructions.
  • If eligible and interested in better NIT/IIIT/GFTI options, monitor the upcoming CSAB Special Round schedule.

Completing these steps on time ensures that the allotted seat remains confirmed and avoids cancellation due to missed deadlines.
