Selection Process & Merit Formula

  • Selection is via shortlisting on academic merit through the walk-in process — no separate written exam
  • Weightage Formula: 30% weightage to Class-X marks + 70% weightage to Degree/Diploma/ITI marks, as applicable
  • Marks in the qualifying exam must be mentioned in percentage — CGPA holders must convert to percentage as per their Board/University norms (verified at document verification)
  • Incomplete or erroneous applications submitted after the last date will be rejected, with no further communication
  • Canvassing of any kind leads to disqualification

Merit Calculation Example: If your Class-X percentage is 82% and your ITI/Diploma/Degree percentage is 75%, your merit score = (82 × 0.30) + (75 × 0.70) = 24.6 + 52.5 = 77.1. This weighted score, compared category-wise against other applicants for the same trade/discipline, decides your selection.

Stipend Structure — Full Recap

Apprentice Category Monthly Stipend
Trade Apprentice (General, e.g., Fitter, Electrician, Turner) ₹10,560/-
Trade Apprentice — COPA & Welder ₹9,600/-
Graduate Apprentice (Degree) ₹12,300/-
Technician Apprentice (Diploma) ₹10,900/-
Funding Model: For Graduate/Technician Apprentices, 50% of the stipend is paid by RSP and 50% is reimbursed from the Board of Apprenticeship Training (BOAT) under DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) Mode — this is a standard PSU apprenticeship funding structure under the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS).

Why SAIL RSP Apprenticeship Is Worth Considering

  • Scale of Opportunity: At 1,110 posts across 46 trade/discipline combinations, this is one of the largest single-notification apprentice drives among PSU steel plants in 2026
  • Unusually Broad Eligibility: Unlike most engineering-only apprentice drives, RSP has significant vacancies for Arts (40), Science (15), Commerce (10), BCA/BBA (10 each), and paramedical streams (Nursing, Physiotherapy, MLT, Radiology, OT Technology, Pharmacy) — a rare opportunity for non-technical and healthcare-qualified candidates at a major steel PSU
  • DBT-Backed Stipend: Half your stipend comes through Direct Benefit Transfer from BOAT — ensures transparent, government-backed disbursal alongside RSP’s own contribution
  • Structured, Trade-Wise Walk-In: Each trade/branch gets a dedicated 2–5 day window, reducing overcrowding compared to single-day mega walk-ins seen at some other PSUs
  • National Portal Registration: Registering via apprenticeshipindia.org/NATS also builds your profile for future PSU apprenticeship opportunities across India, since these are the same portals used by NTPC, BHEL, and other major PSUs

Important General Conditions

  • RSP will NOT provide any accommodation during training — apprentices must arrange this on their own
  • RSP is NOT liable to provide Travel Allowance to applicants
  • Engagement is subject to the candidate being declared medically fit as per Apprentices Act, 1961 requirements — Medical Certificate must be from a Government doctor with medical registration number sealed on it
  • Management reserves the sole right to cancel the selection process at any point, and its decision on selection is final
  • Vacancies in each trade/discipline are indicative and may vary during the selection process
  • RSP has NO obligation to offer regular/permanent employment to Apprentices during or after completion of training
  • Joining date and venue will be communicated to selected candidates via e-mail only

Action Plan — What To Do Right Now (18 July 2026)

  • Step 1 (This Week): Identify whether you fall under Trade Apprentice (ITI) or Graduate/Technician Apprentice (Degree/Diploma) category based on your qualification

  • Step 3: Ensure your bank account is DBT-enabled and KYC-verified now, since this is mandatory and can take a few days to process with your bank
  • Step 4: Convert your CGPA to percentage as per your Board/University’s official formula and keep it documented, in case your marksheet only shows CGPA
