Institute-Wise Reference Closing Ranks (Open Category, General Trend — Previous Cycle) |
|

| NIT Tiruchirappalli (Trichy) | ~40–52 (Fills up largely in Round 1 itself, moves very little across rounds) |
| NIT Warangal | ~80–238 (Noticeable widening seen across rounds in past cycles) |
| NIT Surathkal | ~114–180 |
| MNNIT Allahabad | ~150–200 (Tightened year-on-year, more candidates enter across later rounds) |
| MANIT Bhopal | ~296–578 |
| NIT Jamshedpur | ~500–530 |
| NIT Kurukshetra | ~290–545 (Moderate fluctuation across rounds) |
| NIT Raipur | ~630–650 (Closing rank has tightened significantly over the years) |
| NIT Agartala | ~650–670 |
| NIT Delhi | Highly Competitive Despite Being Newer (Only ~25 Seats) |
| IIIT Vadodara | ~700–1000 range (approx.) |
| IIIT Bhopal | ~700–1000 range (approx.) |
| Important: The figures above are reference ranges based on historical closing-rank trends across recent NIMCET counselling cycles, meant only to help candidates gauge relative competitiveness of institutes. The confirmed, official NIMCET 2026 Round 2 opening and closing ranks — released on 11 July 2026 — must be checked directly on nimcet.admissions.nic.in under the Opening and Closing Rank Details section, as actual 2026 figures will differ from these historical numbers and also vary significantly by category (Open/OBC-NCL/Gen-EWS/SC/ST/PwD).

Round 2 Options — Float / Freeze / Withdraw |
|
| Option | Meaning |
| Float | Candidate remains in the running for a better institute/programme in Round 3; if upgraded, the Round 1/2 seat is automatically cancelled |
| Freeze | Candidate accepts the current allotted seat as final and exits further counselling rounds |
| Withdraw | Candidate exits the counselling process entirely, subject to the applicable refund policy |
| Important: If you choose to Float in Round 2 and receive a fresh/upgraded allotment in Round 3, your Round 2 seat is automatically cancelled. If you do not get an upgrade in Round 3, your Round 2 seat is also lost if you had not separately confirmed/frozen it — only opt for upgrade if the potential Round 3 outcome is genuinely better for you. | |

NIMCET 2026 Round 2 Opening & Closing Ranks — Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q1. When was the NIMCET 2026 Round 2 seat allotment result released?
The Round 2 seat allotment/upgradation result was released on 11 July 2026 at 6:00 PM on nimcet.admissions.nic.in.
Q2. How can I check the NIMCET 2026 Round 2 opening and closing ranks?
Visit nimcet.admissions.nic.in, open the Opening and Closing Rank Details section, and select Round 2, your institute, programme, and category to view the figures.
Q3. What is the last date for Round 2 reporting and fee payment?
Fresh allottees in Round 2 must complete online reporting and pay the partial admission fee between 13 and 15 July 2026.
Q4. Can I upgrade my institute in Round 3 after accepting a Round 2 seat?
Yes, if you choose the Float option, you remain eligible for Round 3; however, if you receive a new allotment in Round 3, your Round 2 seat is automatically cancelled.
Q5. Why do closing ranks usually increase from Round 1 to Round 2?
As higher-rank candidates upgrade to better institutes in each round, their earlier seats become vacant, allowing candidates with lower ranks to be allotted seats — this typically pushes closing ranks higher (except at institutes like NIT Trichy that fill up almost entirely in Round 1).
Q6. Are OBC-NCL and SC/ST closing ranks different from the Open category?
Yes, each category has a separate closing rank at every institute, and reserved category closing ranks are always numerically higher than the Open category closing rank at the same institute.
Q7. What happens if I don’t select Float or Freeze after Round 2 allotment?
Failing to respond or complete the required reporting/fee payment within the deadline can result in automatic cancellation of the allotted seat.
Q8. Is there a round after Round 3?
Yes, a Special Round is conducted from 22–24 July 2026 for seats that remain vacant after Round 3, with allotment expected on 25 July 2026.
