About MP B.Tech Counselling 2026 — Background

The Directorate of Technical Education, Madhya Pradesh, conducts a centralised online counselling process for admission to B.Tech/B.E. programmes across engineering colleges in the state. The counselling runs in multiple rounds, with a fresh Common Merit List (CML) prepared before each round based on candidates’ registration, updated choice filling, and seat availability from the previous round. Round 1 registration for MP BE 2026 counselling was held from 2 to 24 June, the Round 1 merit list was released on 29 June 2026, and Round 1 seat allotment was announced on 3 July 2026. Candidates who wished to continue for a better seat, or those newly registering, participated in Round 2 — choice filling for which remained open from 16 to 22 July 2026, with registration having closed on 18 July 2026. The Round 2 Common Merit List is now scheduled for release on 23 July 2026.

How the Merit List Is Prepared

  • For candidates applying through JEE Main 2026: Merit is based strictly on the JEE Main All India Rank (AIR)
  • For candidates applying on the basis of Class 12th marks (relevant in later phases if seats remain vacant): a separate merit list is prepared using board percentage
  • For B.Arch candidates: Merit is based on JEE Main Paper 2 AIR or a valid NATA score
  • Candidates holding a valid MP Domicile and category certificate are additionally assigned a Category Rank alongside their Common Merit Rank (CMR)
  • Note: the DTE MP Common Merit Rank is different from your JEE Main All India Rank, since the state list only ranks candidates who specifically registered for MP counselling

Tie-Breaking Rules (in case of equal rank/marks)

  • Rule 1: Candidate with higher marks in Mathematics (qualifying exam) is preferred
  • Rule 2: If tied further, higher marks in Physics are considered
  • Rule 3: If tied further, higher marks in the third subject (Chemistry/Biology/Biotechnology/Technical Vocational subject) decide the rank

What Happens After the Round 2 Merit List — Next Steps

  • Step 1: Check the Round 2 Common Merit List and note your merit rank/category rank
  • Step 2: Wait for the Round 2 Seat Allotment Result (scheduled 27 July 2026)
  • Step 3: Log in to the counselling portal and download the seat allotment letter, if allotted
  • Step 4: Choose Freeze (accept the seat, exit counselling) or Upgrade (retain seat but stay in contention for a better option, subject to DTE MP rules)
  • Step 5: Pay the prescribed seat acceptance/partial tuition fee online within the given window
  • Step 6: Download and print the fee receipt and provisional allotment letter
  • Step 7: Report to the allotted institute with original documents within the reporting window and complete document verification

Freeze vs Upgrade — What’s the Difference?
Choosing Freeze means you accept the currently allotted seat and exit the counselling process for further rounds. Choosing Upgrade means you keep your current seat but remain in the running for a better college/branch in the next round — if you get upgraded, your previous allotment is automatically cancelled and a new allotment letter is issued.

Points to Keep in Mind Before/After Round 2 Merit List

  • The merit list only reflects your comparative rank — it is not a seat allotment result
  • Arrange your college/branch choices in genuine order of preference before the choice-filling window closes; once locked, changes are not permitted for that round
  • Your DTE MP Common Merit Rank will differ from your JEE Main All India Rank, since it only ranks candidates registered for MP counselling
  • If not satisfied with the Round 2 allotment, review whether a further round or spot round is scheduled before deciding your next step
  • Always download and preserve a copy of the merit list/allotment letter — you may need it for admission and verification later
