Exam Pattern: The Structure Is Simpler Than Most Bank Exams

The BOB Apprentice written test has four sections, each carrying equal weight. No section is heavier than another. Total: 100 questions, 100 marks, 60 minutes.

SectionQuestionsMarksDuration
General / Financial Awareness2525Combined 60 minutes
Quantitative & Reasoning Aptitude2525(no sectional time limit)
Computer Knowledge2525
General English2525
Total10010060 minutes

No negative marking. This is confirmed in the official notification PDF. Every question is worth one mark; a wrong answer costs nothing. There is no sectional time limit either, which means you can move across sections as you choose during the 60-minute window.

The exam is conducted in remotely proctored mode — you appear from home on a laptop, desktop, tablet, or smartphone with a working front camera and microphone. A stable internet connection is mandatory throughout. Detailed instructions and login credentials were sent to candidates’ registered email IDs (and spam folders — more on this below) by BFSI SSC.

Subject-Wise Syllabus

General / Financial Awareness (25 Questions)

This section is where BOB’s banking-specific identity shows up most clearly. Generic current affairs will not be enough here; the question set leans toward banking and financial topics.

Topics covered:

  • Current affairs (last 4–6 months, with banking events prioritised)
  • Banking awareness: functions of RBI, repo rate, CRR, SLR, MCLR, base rate
  • Government schemes related to banking and financial inclusion: Jan Dhan Yojana, PMMY, PM SVANidhi, PM Vishwakarma, etc.
  • Financial institutions: NABARD, SIDBI, EXIM Bank, NHB, their mandates and recent highlights
  • International organisations: IMF, World Bank, BIS (Bank for International Settlements), their India-related decisions
  • Banking terminology: NPA, SARFAESI Act, IBC, Basel norms
  • Recent RBI circulars, policy rate decisions
  • Digital banking: UPI, IMPS, NACH, BBPS, account aggregator framework
  • Economic indicators: GDP growth data, inflation figures (CPI and WPI), fiscal deficit
  • Union Budget highlights relevant to the financial sector
  • Appointments and awards within the banking and financial sector

The coverage period for current affairs that typically matters most is the six months before the exam date — so roughly January to June 2026 for this cycle.

Quantitative & Reasoning Aptitude (25 Questions)

This is a combined section. Both numerical ability and logical reasoning questions appear here, split roughly across the 25 questions.

Quantitative topics:

  • Number system and simplification
  • Percentage, ratio and proportion
  • Average, profit and loss, discount
  • Simple interest and compound interest
  • Time and work, time, speed and distance
  • Data interpretation: bar graphs, pie charts, line graphs, tabular data

Reasoning topics:

  • Series: number series, letter series
  • Coding-decoding
  • Syllogisms
  • Blood relations
  • Direction sense
  • Seating arrangement and puzzles
  • Inequality (coded and direct)
  • Input-output (occasionally)
  • Odd one out, analogies

Given that both aptitude and reasoning share just 25 marks total, expect a mix — roughly 12–13 questions each, though the exact split isn’t prescribed in the official notification.

Computer Knowledge (25 Questions)

Banking has gone digital, and this section reflects it. The questions are not deeply technical — no programming, no complex networking — but they do expect you to know how computers and digital systems work at a functional level.

Topics covered:

  • Computer basics: hardware and software, input/output devices, memory types (RAM, ROM)
  • Operating systems: Windows basics, file management
  • Microsoft Office: MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint shortcuts and functions
  • Internet: browsers, email basics, search engines, protocols (HTTP, HTTPS, FTP)
  • Networking basics: LAN, WAN, MAN, Wi-Fi, IP address
  • Cybersecurity basics: malware, phishing, firewall, encryption
  • Database basics: concepts of DBMS, basic SQL terms
  • Digital banking tools: internet banking, mobile banking, CBS (Core Banking System), RTGS, NEFT
  • Number systems: binary, decimal, hexadecimal conversions
  • Keyboard shortcuts (particularly MS Office)

Candidates who haven’t worked with MS Office regularly often underestimate how specific these questions can be. Shortcuts like Ctrl+Z, Ctrl+Y, F7 (spell check), and Excel formula basics appear in actual banking exams. Spend a couple of hours just running through these.

General English (25 Questions)

Standard for banking exams. The level is moderate — no advanced vocabulary or complex grammatical structures. The focus is on functional English accuracy.

Topics covered:

  • Reading comprehension (1–2 passages, multiple questions each)
  • Error detection / spotting the error
  • Fill in the blanks (single or double blanks with vocabulary or grammar)
  • Sentence rearrangement / para jumbles
  • Cloze test (fill-in-the-blank passage)
  • Synonyms and antonyms
  • Phrase replacement / sentence improvement
  • Active and passive voice
  • Direct and indirect speech

Reading comprehension typically carries 5–8 marks across the 25. Getting these right with speed is the most efficient use of time in this section.

Selection Process: Three Stages, One That Catches People Off Guard

The BOB Apprentice selection has three stages:

Stage 1 — Online Written Examination: Objective test as described above, conducted by BFSI SSC. Marks form the basis of the merit list.

Stage 2 — Document Verification: Candidates who qualify the written test are called state-wise for document verification. This is not conducted online. Candidates must appear in person at a designated centre in the state they applied for. The bank does not reimburse any travel or accommodation expenses.

Stage 3 — Local Language Proficiency Test (LPT): A test in the official local language of the state you applied for. The test assesses whether you can read, write, speak, and understand the language. This is not just a formality — candidates who fail the LPT are not selected, regardless of their written exam rank.

The merit list is prepared state-wise and category-wise, based on written exam marks. If two candidates score identically, the older candidate gets preference according to the official notification.

How the Remote Proctoring Actually Works — and the Email Mistake That Gets People Disqualified

This is the one detail most syllabus articles skip, and it matters enormously for the 2026 cycle candidates waiting for results, and for future aspirants.

Because the BOB Apprentice 2026 exam was remotely proctored, there was no physical admit card sent or required. Instead, BFSI SSC sent login credentials (username and password for the exam portal) to candidates’ registered email IDs. Candidates who did not monitor their inbox — including their spam or junk folders — in the days before the exam may have missed these credentials entirely.

This is a recurring issue in remotely proctored bank exams. BFSI SSC communications routinely land in spam because they originate from automated mailing systems. The official advisory explicitly mentioned checking both inbox and spam. Candidates who missed the email and couldn’t appear for the exam have no recourse after the fact. For any future cycle, register with an email ID you check daily, and whitelist BFSI SSC’s domain immediately after applying.

Similarly, at document verification: eligibility is verified only at this stage, not during the online test. This means your application is accepted and you can appear for the exam even if a document irregularity exists. The disqualification, if any, happens at verification. Candidates are admitted to the written test “provisionally,” as stated in the official notification. Presenting incorrect or incomplete documents at DV will result in cancellation regardless of your written exam rank.

Stipend and Duration

Selected candidates are engaged as apprentices for one year under the Apprentices Act, 1961. The monthly stipend is ₹15,000 as confirmed in the official notification. No additional allowances or perks are provided during the engagement period.

This is not a permanent appointment. The apprenticeship gives you structured exposure to branch banking operations. What you do with that experience afterward — whether you leverage it for bank exam preparation or as a credential in future recruitment drives — depends on you.

Application Fee (For Reference in Future Cycles)

CategoryFee
General / EWS / OBC₹800
SC / ST / PwBD₹200

Fee is non-refundable and payable online only (Net Banking / Debit Card / Credit Card / UPI).

What Happens Next: The Result Timeline

The official result for the 21 June 2026 exam has not been declared as of 28 June 2026. Based on how the previous BOB Apprentice cycle ran — the December 2025 exam cycle had its result declared in March 2026, roughly 10–12 weeks post-exam — the result for the June 2026 exam could be expected sometime in August or September 2026 (estimated, unofficial). Do not treat this as a confirmed date. The bank has not announced a result date. Monitor bankofbaroda.in under the Careers section for updates.

When the result does come out, it will be a PDF listing roll numbers of provisionally qualified candidates, arranged state-wise. There is no individual scorecard released simultaneously — scorecards typically follow a few weeks after the result PDF. Do not try to check results on third-party sites before official release; several websites publish fabricated “result check” links that either ask for login details or lead nowhere useful.

FAQs

Q: The exam was on 21 June and I didn’t receive any login credentials on email. Can I do anything now?

As of this date, the exam window has closed. Login credentials sent by BFSI SSC before the exam were the only way to access the test. If you missed the email (including your spam folder) and couldn’t log in, there is no official provision for re-examination. For the next cycle, candidates should register a frequently used email ID and check both inbox and spam every day from the date of application until the exam day.

Q: Is there a sectional cut-off in the BOB Apprentice exam?

The official notification does not prescribe a sectional cut-off. The qualifying cut-off is applied on aggregate marks. However, the bank reserves the right to set minimum qualifying marks in each section — this is mentioned in the notification as a possibility rather than a fixed announcement. Do not assume all 100 marks count from aggregate alone; prepare all four sections adequately.

Q: I applied in Uttar Pradesh but I only know Hindi. The LPT mentions the local language — will Hindi count?

Yes. Hindi is an official local language for Uttar Pradesh (and several other Hindi-belt states). If you applied for UP, you would be tested in Hindi in the Local Language Proficiency Test. States like Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and West Bengal require proficiency in Tamil, Kannada, and Bengali respectively. The language requirement is tied to the state you applied for, not your home state.

Q: The notification says NATS/NAPS registration was mandatory. What happens if I completed the BOB application but didn’t register on NATS/NAPS?

Pre-registration on NATS (National Apprenticeship Training Scheme) or NAPS (National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme) was a mandatory pre-condition per the official notification. If the NATS/NAPS registration was not completed before submitting the BOB application, the application would have been considered invalid at the time of document verification. This is one of the less-visible eligibility requirements that tripped up a number of candidates in this cycle.

Q: Does appearing in BOB Apprentice give any advantage in future BOB permanent recruitment?

No, the official notification makes no such provision. The apprenticeship is a fixed-term engagement under the Apprentices Act and does not carry any preferential hiring rights for subsequent BOB recruitments. The value is in the work experience and banking familiarity gained, which can support preparation for IBPS, SBI, or subsequent BOB recruitment drives.

Disclaimer: The exam date (21 June 2026), vacancy count (5,000), exam pattern (100 questions, 60 minutes, four sections of 25 marks each), stipend (₹15,000/month), and notification details cited in this article are sourced from the official BOB Apprentice notification PDF (Advt. No. BOB/HRM/APPRENTICE/ADVT/2026/01) and official communications by BFSI SSC. The result and cut-off are not yet released as of 28 June 2026.
