Key Exam-Day Rules & Instructions
- Screening Test (OMR-Based): Use only Ball Point Pen (Blue or Black) for marking answers — use of pencil, ink pen, or gel pen is not permitted. The original OMR sheet (top copy) must be handed to the invigilator; taking it away leads to disqualification. Use of whitener/correcting fluid/blade/eraser or any tampering leads to disqualification
- Mains (Descriptive) Exam: Biometric identification is conducted before entry; late entry after the specified time is not allowed. Candidates cannot leave the hall until full time expires, and electronic devices including mobile phones are strictly prohibited
- Provisional Admission: Admission to the examination is strictly provisional — final candidature depends on verification of original certificates and eligibility criteria after the process concludes
- Scribe Facility: Totally blind candidates are provided a scribe and 20 minutes extra time per hour; candidates with locomotor disability/cerebral palsy affecting the writing extremity (minimum 40% impairment) also get 20 minutes extra time per hour, but without a scribe
- Unfair Means: Any malpractice invokes the Penal Provisions of Act 25/97 (A.P. Gazette No. 35, Part-IV.B), and can lead to an FIR being lodged with the concerned police station

Preparation Strategy — Stage-Wise Tips
- Screening Test: With 1/3rd negative marking, attempt only questions you’re reasonably confident about. Since both papers are equally weighted (120 marks each), don’t neglect General Aptitude in favor of General Studies — reasoning and quantitative sections reward consistent daily practice
- Qualifying Language Papers: Since Telugu and English Mains papers don’t count toward merit but must be cleared to qualify, allocate just enough preparation time to comfortably clear the minimum threshold — don’t over-invest time here at the cost of the merit-deciding Papers I–V
- General Essay (Paper-I): Practice writing structured, well-argued 800-word essays regularly across all three sections (contemporary/socio-political/socio-economic-environmental) — originality and coherent argumentation are explicitly rewarded in evaluation
- History & Geography (Paper-II): Give dedicated, focused attention to Andhra Pradesh-specific history, culture, and geography — this is a distinctive, high-scoring area that candidates preparing with generic UPSC materials often under-prepare
- Polity & Ethics (Paper-III): Build strong conceptual clarity on constitutional provisions and stay current on recent governance/RTI/Lokpal developments; the Ethics section rewards structured, example-driven answers over abstract theorizing
- Economy (Paper-IV): Follow the current year’s Union and Andhra Pradesh state budgets closely, since “highlights and analysis of the current year’s budget” is explicitly part of the syllabus for both national and AP-specific sections
- Science & Environment (Paper-V): Focus on application-oriented current affairs (ISRO missions, environmental policy updates, disease outbreaks) rather than pure rote memorization, since this paper blends static science with dynamic current developments
- Personality Test: Prepare to discuss your essay and Mains answers in more depth — interview panels often probe deeper into positions taken in the Ethics and Economy papers
