MHT CET 2026 Merit List — What It Is
|
| The State CET Cell, Maharashtra has released the MHT CET 2026 provisional merit list on 22 July 2026 at cetcell.mahacet.org, as part of the Centralised Admission Process (CAP) for admission to First Year B.E./B.Tech and 5-year Integrated Engineering courses in the state. The merit list ranks candidates based on their normalized MHT CET percentile combined with verified Class 12th academic scores, category, and candidature type. Separate provisional merit list PDFs are released for candidates ranked on MHT CET score and for those admitted on the basis of JEE Main 2026 score. Only candidates who have completed CAP registration and document verification are included in this list. This provisional list is open to challenge — candidates who spot discrepancies can raise a grievance before the binding final merit list is issued.

What Happens After the Final Merit List — CAP Round 1 Process
- Step 1 — Seat Matrix Display: Provisional category-wise and institute-wise seat availability (seat matrix) for CAP Round 1 will be published soon after the final merit list
- Step 2 — Option Form Filling: Candidates in the final merit list fill and confirm their college/branch preferences in order of choice, from 28 to 30 July 2026
- Step 3 — Provisional Allotment: Seats are allotted on 02 August 2026 based on merit rank, category, candidature type, home university region, and the order of preferences submitted
- Step 4 — Seat Acceptance & Reporting: Candidates allotted a seat must accept it and report to the allotted institute between 03 and 05 August 2026 to confirm admission
- Step 5 — Freeze, Float, or Slide: Candidates can choose to freeze their allotted seat (accept and exit CAP), or continue in subsequent rounds hoping for a better allotment — note that upgrading in a later round automatically cancels the earlier round’s seat
- Most seats in top government, government-aided, and high-demand private colleges (VJTI Mumbai, COEP Pune, Walchand Sangli, ICT Mumbai, etc.) typically close within Round 1 or Round 2
- CAP will run across multiple rounds (Round 1, 2, 3, and a possible spot round), with vacant seat display, fresh option filling, allotment, and reporting repeating each round until seats are filled

Important Tips for Candidates
- Appearing in the merit list does not guarantee admission — it only establishes your relative rank; actual seat allotment depends on merit, category, candidature type, seat availability, and your submitted preference order
- Cross-check every field on your provisional list carefully — name spelling, category, percentile, and Class 12 marks — since even a small data error can affect your final rank
- Don’t wait until the last day to raise a grievance — submit it as early as possible within the 23–25 July window in case additional documents are needed
- Rely only on the official CET Cell portal — the authority has specifically warned candidates against downloading merit lists or uploading personal documents on unofficial/third-party websites
- Fill the CAP Round 1 option form with as many realistic college-branch choices as possible, in genuine order of preference, to maximize your allotment chances across rounds
- Choose “accept and upgrade” over freezing your Round 1 seat immediately, unless you are fully satisfied with the allotted college and branch — but remember the earlier seat is auto-cancelled if you upgrade
