About IOB LBO Recruitment 2026

Indian Overseas Bank (IOB), a leading Public Sector Bank headquartered in Chennai, has officially invited applications for 250 Local Bank Officer (LBO) posts in Junior Management Grade Scale-I (JMGS-I). LBO is a state-specific officer post — candidates apply for a particular state and are required to have proficiency in the local language of that state, making local language knowledge and regional posting the key differentiators from a regular PO recruitment.

Selection is based on an Online Written Exam, followed by a Language Proficiency Test (LPT) and a Personal Interview. Candidates who produce a 10th or 12th standard marksheet/certificate showing they studied the specified local language as a subject are exempted from the LPT.

Note: Sectional timing applies — candidates must complete each section within its allotted time and cannot switch between sections during the exam. There is a negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer. To qualify, candidates must score at least 35% in each section (30% for reserved categories), along with an overall qualifying cut-off.

Selection Process — IOB LBO 2026

• Stage 1: Online Written Exam — 140 questions, 200 marks, 3 hours with sectional timing
• Stage 2: Language Proficiency Test (LPT) — Candidates must demonstrate reading, writing, and speaking proficiency in the local language of the state applied for; exempted if 10th/12th marksheet shows the local language as a studied subject
• Stage 3: Personal Interview — Candidates qualifying both the Online Exam and LPT are called for interview
• Final Merit: Weightage ratio of Online Exam to Personal Interview is 80:20 for final selection

Qualifying Criteria & Marking Scheme

• Minimum 35% marks required in each individual section (General category)
• Minimum 30% marks required in each section for reserved category candidates
• 0.25 marks deducted for every wrong answer — unattempted questions carry no penalty
• Merely qualifying sectional/overall cut-offs does not guarantee shortlisting for LPT/Interview — final shortlisting is based on overall merit within the category and state-wise vacancy
