• Visit the official UPSC website — upsc.gov.in
• Go to the “Examinations” or “What’s New” section on the homepage
• Click the link for “Combined Medical Services Examination, 2026 – Provisional Answer Key”
• Select and open the Paper I or Paper II PDF as needed
• Download the PDF and match it against your response sheet / marked options in the OMR/e-sheet
• Cross-check your question booklet series/set code (A/B/C/D) with the correct answer key set before calculating your score, since each set has a different question sequence

UPSC CMS 2026 Marking Scheme

• Each question has four alternative answers
• One-third (0.33) of the marks assigned to a question is deducted for a wrong answer
• Marking more than one answer to a question is treated as a wrong answer, even if one of the marked options is correct — the same penalty applies
• A question left blank/unattempted carries no penalty
• UPSC holds discretion to fix separate qualifying (sectional) cut-off marks in either or both papers before shortlisting for the Personality Test

How to Raise an Objection Against the UPSC CMS Answer Key 2026

• UPSC accepts representations against the question paper and provisional answer keys only through its official online portal — no email, post, or in-person submissions are entertained
• Log in at upsconline.nic.in using your registered credentials
• Go to “Examinations” and select “Representations on Question Paper & Provisional Answer Keys”
• Choose the relevant question, paper, and reason for objection
• Submit supporting justification where the portal allows it
• Submit before the window closes at 6:00 PM on the 7th day from the exam date — nothing is entertained after this deadline
• Objections without valid justification, or submitted after the deadline, will not be considered

UPSC CMS 2026 Selection Process

• Stage 1: Computer-Based (Offline, OMR) Written Examination — Paper I + Paper II, 500 Marks Total
• Stage 2: Personality Test (Interview) — 100 Marks, for candidates shortlisted based on written exam performance
• Final Merit: Combined score of the Written Examination + Personality Test
• Category-wise cut-off marks and the final result are declared separately after the whole process (written result, interview, and final result) is complete

Important Instructions for Candidates

• Cross-check the question booklet series/set code with the correct answer key PDF before calculating your score
• The answer key released now is provisional; UPSC generally finalises the answer key used for actual result computation only after the objection window closes and, in many of its exams, only once the full recruitment process (written result + interview + final result) is complete — so the score you calculate now should be treated as an estimate only
• Objections without valid justification, or submitted after the deadline, will not be considered, and UPSC does not enter into individual correspondence on representations
• Keep your response sheet / marked OMR copy safe until the final result is declared, in case you need to verify your calculated score later
• The CBT written result is expected around September 2026, after which shortlisted candidates will be called for the Personality Test

UPSC CMS 2026 — About the Exam

• UPSC CMS is conducted annually to recruit doctors as Medical Officers / General Duty Medical Officers in various Central Government departments, Railways and Municipal bodies
• Eligible candidates must have qualified the written and practical parts of the final MBBS examination (final-year appearing candidates could also apply, subject to conditions in the original notification)
• After the CBT written exam and Personality Test, selected candidates are allotted to CHS (Central Health Service), Railways (ADMO) or Municipal bodies based on merit and preference
• This is one of the key entry routes for MBBS graduates into central government medical service jobs in India
